The Heart Chakra: Romancing the Stone

The Heart Chakra, the anahata in Sanskrit, is associated with the color green or pink. This love center of our human energy system is often the focus in bringing about a healing. Thus, the words ‘Love Heals All’ have great truth. Hurtful situations that can affect our emotional being such as divorce or separation, grief, emotional abuse, abandonment and adultery are wounding to the Heart Chakra. Physical illnesses brought about by heartbreak require that an emotional healing occur along with the physical healing. Learning to love ourselves is a powerful first step in securing a healthy fourth chakra. The ‘wounded child’ resides in the heart chakra. Spiritual lessons for this chakra are unconditional love, trust, compassion and forgiveness. Body parts for the fourth chakra include the heart, lungs, circulatory system, shoulders, and upper back.

The Center of our energy system

“There are seven chakras, and the anahata is just in the middle; three below it, three above it. When a person is just in the middle, on the fourth chakra, at the door – love happens. Love is between sex and prayer.”

The heart stands at the center of all energies and unifies our being as a whole. It is imperative, in these coming times, to keep our hearts open, and replace judgments with acceptance. It is vital that we learn to love even more, and to allow ourselves to be loved. When we keep ourselves in a loving space, we will have a positive effect on our environment, a healing effect.

Color and Gemstones for the Heart Chakra

For healing, green balances the vibrations of the nervous system. It is said to aid any heart problem or blood pressure disorder. It is also used to restore tired nerves and will help those in need of more energy. Although green is the primary color used with the heart chakra, it can also be effective to use pink stones such as Rose Quartz if more softness, affection and love seem to be needed in working with the heart chakra.

A few months ago, I received a call from a woman who asked for my help. Her husband had just left her for a younger woman. She was heartbroken and more than a little angry. During a kinesiology session for her, I laid a large Rose Quartz heart over her heart chakra and observed its effect. She immediately relaxed as Rose Quartz soothes and calms the emotional body. I kept the stone on the heart for about 20 minutes. As she came into a more loving, heart-centered space, she was able to release some of the anger and hurt she was feeling. I also used the Aura Soma Pink Pomander to help with the healing. I suggested she get a piece of Rose Quartz and wear it as a pendant over the heart which she did. A while later, she shared with me that she felt this gemstone really helped calm and heal her wounded heart.

The gemstones most associated with the Heart Chakra are Emerald, Malachite, Jade, Chrysoprase, Aventurine, Moss Agate, Green Tourmaline and Amazonite. The pink stones for the heart are Rose Quartz, Rhodonite, Rhodochrosite, Pink Tourmaline and Kunzite.
